Chapter 13
Love Lies
The ride back to Maplewood was mostly quiet. Mei Wei wondered what her mother would say when they actually talked. Raâzee, on the other hand, didnât care what the hell she wanted. In his eyes, she was an intruder and about to fuck everything up. He had finally gotten his wifeâs attitude to where he wanted it to be. Now, her mother that had abandoned her sought to undo that. With her very presence, she could resuscitate the old, boring, rigid, super square wife that he had grown tired of. There was no way that he would ever allow that. Mei Wei belonged to him, and he wasnât about to let anyone, not even Youa Wei, change that. It wasnât long before his thoughts consumed him, and he asked Mei Wei if she wanted to make a quick stop with him to get a drink to calm their nerves. It didnât take much mental coaching on his part. For if she had learned anything about liquor, it was that it was good at helping her forget her pain.
Mei Wei said, âYou have no idea how much I want a drink right now. I never thought I would hear from my mom again. Right now, I donât have a clue what I am going to say to her or what she is going to tell me after all this time. Knowing her, itâs probably all bad news that she wants to tell me anyways.â
Raâzee just listened as she vented. Mei Wei continued, âBabe, Iâm not even dressed appropriately to be in public. I mean, wearing shorts and your basketball jersey in this weather is me basically wearing pajamas.â
Raâzee smiled and said in a comforting voice, âDo not worry beautiful. I know the perfect store we can stop at. I am sure youâll find something there that you like. Then, we can go stop for drinks for a little bit, okay?â
Mei Wei said, âShopping and liquor? I think that I am going to like hanging out with you Decimal.â Then she giggled.
Raâzee laughed and said, âOh yeah? Next, youâll be talking about you wanting to hustle.â
Mei Wei responded in her bad girl voice, âBabe, I have hustled before.â
Raâzee said, âOh yeah? Doing what?â
Mei Wei lowered her head and grew quiet. Raâzee said, âBeautiful, you can tell me anything.â
Mei Wei looked out the window and said, âIf I tell you, you will look at me differently and I like how you look at me with innocent eyes. Truth is, I am not the good girl that you think I am.â
Raâzee replied, âThere is nothing that can change how I feel about you. You are my wife and I love you. So just tell me.â
Mei Wei looked at him while he was checking the side mirrors and switching lanes. Then, she softly said, âBefore my mom and dad split, he was very abusive. One day, he hit my mom, and I tried to kill him with a butcher knife. I remember I came in the house after I heard him slap her.
